The tennis courts in Jelenia Góra were well-known throughout Poland. In the past, world-class players such as Thomas Emmrich, then the best tennis player in the socialist bloc, competed here.
The history of tennis in Jelenia Góra began in May 1946 with the establishment of the Zapłon Sports Club. In 1947, the first open tennis tournament for the Jelenia Góra Championship was held.
The renovation of the courts in 1950 led to them being recognized as the best facility in Lower Silesia, which meant that the most important tennis events were held at Sudecka Street – at that time called Świerczewskiego Street.
In 1964, 1970, 1977, and 1983, the National Polish Championships took place in Jelenia Góra.
